Accessibility Comments:

The registration and login process is completely accessible.
Almost all the buttons are not labeled. the conversation view is partially accessible, You can’t use swipe to read messages, You’ll have to drag your finger over it and it is very unreliable.
When you select someone, a window opens with around 12-14 buttons which are not labeled at all. drag your finger to the top right side of your screen, and you’ll find two buttons to the right of your friend’s name. the first one to the left is video call, the one to the far right is voice call (The buttons are very small and are in the corner at the top right).
All the other buttons at the bottom are not labeled and i have not completely tested them.
accepting calls are a bit hard a s well, Voiceover gets unresponsive a little.
I will update this information once I play with this app a little more.

VoiceOver Performance:

VoiceOver reads a few page elements.

Button Labeling:

Few buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability:

Some parts of the app are accessible with VoiceOver, but not enough to make it usable.

Other Comments:

Wire is an excellent application. It has the potential to catch up to skype and its alternatives. Here’s why I love this application and would really want it to improve in terms of accessibility:
1. Encryption and privacy. All your calls and text messages are fully encrypted. in fact, wire’s first priority is encryption. I clearly value this and also put it up as my first priority as a feature of a communication application, where I talk to my friends and family and would like noone else to access my data while I do so.
This point is reinforced with the fact that the application is open source and people specially security experts can easily look at the code and see what wire does at its core.
2. You can choose to work with it with a phone number only, with E-Mail only, or you can go ahead and register with your phone number and mail. If you like to automatically have your contacts who have wire in your list, you can give your phone number and register it and bingo, You’re all set. This is specially good for friends and family who are not that much technical and would like to set it up as fast as they want.
And of course, If you do not like to register your phone number, You’ll set it up with an Email and will talk to other users with their usernames.
3. applications for pc and mac as well as a web client. You really do not see this on other alternative platforms other than skype and a few apps. good thing, all your data will be synced with your devices.
4. amazing quality with 3g connection. I’ve tested this on the move in the countryside where skype has failed to work. I had a very good line with my friend using this app.
5. A very good working application for android tablets. Whatsapp does not support android tablets officially, and Skype has lots of incompatibilities with them. but guess what, wire has them all covered.
Wire has too many features which are all listed above in the description, but these were the ones that would make me to move over from Skype to it.
Now – Wire has very major accessibility issues, but They look very easy to fix. I really do hope that you guys also submit my feedback to them, and they fix it as soon as possible so we all could use it as well.

Like all apps in Kid Friendly Software’s Blindfold Games series, this one is very accessible. During the game, you’ll need to do a two-finger single tap to bring up a screen which will allow you to do things like buy properties, mortgage, trade, etc. For these screens, Voiceover is used.

iOS Version:

Accessibility Comments:

This app has a lot to offer in the financial management arena. I’ve found everything from transaction review and categorization to reviewing investment performance working well with VoiceOver.

The app has a particularly handy feature for reviewing holdings. When you select holdings from the app’s menu, you are given a screen that shows you what is called “You index” and then several standard investment benchmarks. Selecting one of those benchmarks, then shows you a comparison of your investments to that benchmark for the selected period. Each day in the period is one item using VoiceOver where the name of the item contains a percentage for your index and the benchmark based on percent increase or decrease from the start of the period in review.

One hint is that for any of the areas of the app that are showing financial data, use the More Options item to change the date range. The default in most cases is 30 days but you can change to other options such as 90 days, this year or last year.

While this app works very well with VoiceOver, one issue i’ve had at various times, is when adding a new account for the first time. It seems that entering characters in the password field is not always sending them to the password edit box. When this happens, I add the account from the http://ift.tt/J8IbZh web site. I also find the Check Up option easier to read with VoiceOver on an iPad.

VoiceOver Performance:

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling:

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability:

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.

Other Comments:

To take full advantage of this app, you are going to want to link your various financial accounts. See my note in the accessibility comments about sometimes needing to do that from the web site as a one time setup item. That said, I’ve been using this app with excellent success for more than a year now.

Also be aware, that while this app is free, Personal Capital does offer investment advisory services for a fee if that’s of interest. You do not have to use those services to use this app though and this has become one of my Go To iOS aps for financial matters.

SonoControls

Category:

Description of App:

This widget solves the problem all Sonos users have: to control a list of all your zones from your notification screen without the need to unlock your iPhone or launch the Sonos app.

SonoControls gives you Sonos volume and track controls for ALL your zones, as a widget on your Today Notification screen. This widget is accessible on your WiFi network, even when your Sonos is not playing! Great to come home and start your music, without the need to unlock your iPhone or launch the Sonos app.

Just swipe and control your Sonos system.
• Control all your Sonos speakers from the Today Notification screen
• Volume up, down, mute, play, pause, next, previous track
• Works great together with the official Sonos app! It adds a handy widget to your Today screen, even when your iPhone is locked
• Need to switch playlists? Simply tap the track/artist name text to start the official Sonos app (when installed)
• SonoControls is an independent and unofficial app, and is not affiliated with Sonos in any way.
• Clean layout with nicely sized controls and album artwork
• Works with both a single or multiple controllers, grouped and paired
• Show or hide speakers. Pick the speakers you’d like to see in your widget, and change the order of your speakers
• Show grouped speakers as a group, or as individual speakers
• The widget scales size to fit on the screen, but you can also pick your favourite size manually
• Set the volume precision to your taste, and limit the maximum volume to protect your ears
• Designed and built by somebody who uses his own Sonos system daily!
• No configuration needed, the app finds your Sonos system automatically. If you group or ungroup controllers with the Sonos app, just use the refresh button in the SonoControls app to see the new grouping
• Works for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
• Some Sonos network configurations do need manual IP address configuration, which is quite easily done in the App, tab settings. Need setup support? feedback@devmobile.nl for personal support, since App Store reviewers cannot be contacted in any way. Thank you!

Talking Scientific Calculator

Category:

Description of App:

A comprehensively featured calculator that has become a favorite among adults and high school students around the world. Designed for a wide range of users, this calculator has large colorful buttons, optional high contrast, full VoiceOver support, and unique to this calculator; the option to use speech for answers, buttons names and formulas!

** Regularly featured on “What’s Hot” – Utilities

Video demo available from the support link.

Features include:
————————–

– Can read answers, entered numbers and formulas aloud.

1,234.56 is spoken as “One thousand, two hundred thirty four point five six.”

2 + 3 x 5^2 is spoken as “two plus three multiply five squared.”

– Built in recording studio and script. Requires only 5 minutes to record a new voice. Recordings can be transferred between devices using Bluetooth.

– Two entry modes, Standard and Formula. Standard mode emulates traditional calculators. Formula mode takes care of the order of operations for you. You enter a mathematical expression, complete with operators and parentheses (brackets), tap the = button, and the expression is evaluated.

– The entire app’s feature set is accessible to VoiceOver users (using standard or touch typing input styles) and Switch Control users.

– Unique to this app is an Enhanced VoiceOver Speech mode that pronounces large numbers and formula with natural language rather than one digit at a time.

– Supports entry and display of Braille on supported devices (thanks to assistance from the Washington State School for the Blind.)

– Numeric formatting of results: Max fraction digits (default), fixed fraction digits (useful for currency calculations), and max significant digits (useful for science and engineering lab work), plus international formatting.

– Trigonometric, hyperbolic, logarithmic, permutations, combinations, factorial, powers, roots, percent and bit-wise operations, conversion between hexadecimal and decimal, random numbers.

– Full support for fractions (simple and mixed), conversion to and from decimal, fraction reduction, and use of fractions with all operators.

– Easy access to basic calculator functions, for those who rarely use scientific operations.

– Paper log feature, designed particularly for classroom use. Calculations can be recorded with a timestamp to be viewed and emailed.

– iPads get a user interface designed to make use of the large screen area. iPhones and iPod Touches get a user interface designed for the smaller screen. This includes large, easy to read scientific buttons, accessed on a scrolling panel. All the features of the iPad version are included in the smaller design.

Looking for statistics functionality? Check out the companion Talking Statistics Calculator on the App Store.

Customizable for each level of vision:
——————————————–

Normal to low vision: Large, clear buttons with optional speech.
Low vision: High contrast display mode, with optional speech.
No vision / blind: VoiceOver reads the button names before they are activated and also calculation results. Entry and display on refreshable Braille devices.

Switch control accessible. Split-view and Slide-over supported.

Why record new voices?
——————————————–

Having your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch talk with your own voice, or that of a friend or tutor will make the calculator sound more natural to you. The calculator will speak with the accent you are used to hearing.

How good is the sound quality of recorded voices?

Excellent: The microphone in your iPad / iPhone or iPod Touch is of very good quality, and this calculator performs digital signal processing to ensure the audio level is consistent across all recorded words.

Description of App:

This app helps you to fall asleep by playing gentle backgrounds, called dreamscapes. You have the option to have a male or female voice speak gently, encouraging you to relax. The phrases the voice speaks are slightly different each time. The free version has only one dreamscape for sleep and one for napping, but you can purchase the premium version, which offers multiple dreamscapes and the ability to either have one chosen at random each time you use the app, or to select a particular one. The app is highly configurable. ErgData

Category:

Description of App:

ErgData is a free iOS application designed to run on an Apple iPhone or iPod touch. For full use, ErgData requires a connection to a Concept2 Indoor Rower or SkiErg. This may be either a wireless connection to a Concept2 PM5, or an iConnectConcept2 kit (available from Concept2) to connect to a PM3, PM4, or PM5. Once connected, it provides additional rowing statistics, stores and displays your workout results, and uploads your workouts to the Concept2 Online Logbook. It also offers the enhanced visibility of a backlit display.

Requires:
– Concept2 Indoor Rower (any model) or SkiErg with PM3, PM4, or PM5 monitor.
Note: Updating the firmware may be required.
– iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, 6, or 6 Plus, or an iPod touch 5.
– If using a PM3 or PM4 or PM5, purchase an iConnectConcept2 connection kit: Order part No. 2780 (US $35) from your local Concept2 representative. This includes an interface cable as well as a cradle to hold your iPhone or iPod touch.
Note: iPhone 5, 5s, 5c, 6, 6 Plus, and iPodTouch 5 requires Apple’s Lightning to 30-pin adapter to connect to the iConnectConcept2 cable. Purchase genuine Apple adapters, others will not work.
– If using a PM5 with a iPhone 4S, 5, 5S, 5C, 6, or 6 Plus then a connection may be made using Bluetooth Smart instead of a cable. A firmware update to the PM5 is likely required for all Concept2 rowers shipped before Jan 1, 2015.
– Polar BLE Heartrate Belts require iPhone 4S or better, iPad 3rd Gen, iPod Touch 5th Gen, iPad Mini (all) and iOS 6 or higher.
